The tip of my ring finger has turned purple in the last few days, should I be worried, as in amputation?

I've only just turned eighteen recently, and I've been worried in the past couple of days because my left-ring finger has gone purple and numb in the top joint, I don't know what would cause this. Blood circulation? Should I be concerned about losing my finger if things don't improve soon? Thanks, Danny
Obviously losing a tip or a half of a finger wouldn't be the end of the world, I have a friend who recently had a finger chopped off, but if I can stop this from happening, I'd be more than happy.

Go to the hospital. Several weeks ago my pinkie toe and big toe on my right foot started to hurt, I waited 3 days before getting medical attention, by the time I got to the hospital I couldn't walk on my foot and my two sore toes were blueish purple, long story short I had a blood clot in my foot and had a 3 night hospital stay, oh and by the way, age isn't a factor, yes I'm older then you, but I'm only 33, to young by most standards to be having blood clots.
