Everything You Need To Know About Using A Nebulizer

A nebulizer is a small air compressor used to administer asthma or breathing medications. It takes medication in liquid form and, with the help of room air, transforms it into a fine mist so the patient can easily and comfortably breath the medication in.

How are nebulizers used? First, the device has to be plugged in. Then, thoroughly wash your hands before putting the medicine in. Then open the nebulizer’s medication cup and fill it with the appropriate dosage. After you’ve replaced the cap on the medication cup, attach the mask or mouthpiece. Should you be using a mouthpiece, be sure to seal your lips securely around it. If using a mask, firmly hold it onto your face. Doing so will ensure you get the whole dosage of the medication. Afterwards, turn the nebulizer on and start taking slow and deep breaths. Continue breathing until medication is all used up. Nebulized breathing usually takes about 10 minutes on most machines.

A portable nebulizer is beneficial to those who have conditions where they have to take medication regularly. This gives the patients the convenience of being able to bring the device with them anywhere and prevents the treatment from interfering too much with daily routines. Many of these machines can also be fitted with various sizes of masks and tubes to make adjustments easy.
