Buying a Lift Chair Online: How to Do It Safely
Shopping online is second nature to many people, especially those who've never known a day without a computer. For others, it's a scary proposition. Giving credit card numbers out over the phone used to be what people warned against, but now some worry that shopping online can expose your credit card number to hordes of greedy hackers just waiting to turn on the shopping channel and buy things with your dollars.
The good news is that your payment information is uncommonly safe online, and often even safer than when you pay for something at a local store. If you shop at a store that still uses paper and carbon receipts for credit cards, your information is at risk of being stolen by someone simply pulling the carbon out of the trash. Shopping online, however, is secure. You only need to make sure you're dealing with a reputable merchant, and that's easy to do.
Online Shopping Security
If you're going to purchase a lift chair, you might feel that it's best to shop locally. The idea of buying something that expensive online makes you worry about being ripped off. It's easier to understand how good your shopping experience can be by looking at the potential problems and why they're not an issue when you shop online. If the idea of being ripped off has crossed your mind, you've probably considered these ways it could happen:
1. Someone could steal your information while you're buying online.
To reduce the already low risk of this happening, be sure you're running up-to-date anti-virus protection on your computer. And be sure that you're using a new version of your browser and that it shows you're shopping on a secure site, usually with a little lock in the status bar. These two things alone can help prevent credit card fraud.
2. The store you buy it from could take your money and not deliver the product.
This is easily preventable. If a store selling lift chairs shows any of these signs, shop somewhere else:
- No phone number and unclear customer service policies
- No return policy/unclear policy
- No clear information on shipping charges or local delivery charges
- A generic looking payment form with no contact information
- A request for payment information through email. Never send credit card numbers through email, because it's rarely secure enough for that type of information
3. The store could send you a product that's faulty or one that you're unhappy with and not make it right.
This is another issue that's easily preventable. By dealing with a store that takes pride in the lift chairs it sells and takes pride in its excellent customer service, you can rest assured that you'll get the product you need. By choosing a store with live customer service representatives to help you, you're more likely to get the product you need at the price you want. And if you do have a problem after delivery, they'll be there to address your concerns. If you have to correspond with only an email address, that will leave you waiting, wondering when they'll get back to you. It's far better to buy a lift chair from a store where you can talk to a real person when you need to.
